Some of us have had a really hard season…
Nevertheless, we are glad to share in the sufferings of our Lord and Christ Jesus. Our Resister is hard at work trying to subvert the faith of God’s children. Our brother and Apostle Peter confirms this when he says: “Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.” (1 Peter 5:9) Peter goes on to compare our Enemy to a lion roaring seeking to devour us. Our Enemy’s principal weapons are fear, anxiety, and worry. So what happens when these emotions grip us in times of tribulation? What if our situation were so debilitating to us physically and mentally that we cannot see the Hem of our Lord? Let’s take a journey through the eyes of faith of a woman in desperate need of healing. Through her healing let’s discover how we can we receive much needed healing.
And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, 26and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse. 27She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. 28For she said, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.” 29And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. 30And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my garments?” 31And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’” 32And he looked around to see who had done it. 33But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. 34And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease…
-The book of Mark chapter 5:26-34
The Bible says that this woman had an issue of blood for 12 years. It should be noted that because of her flow of blood, she would not have been allowed inside the Temple. She was considered ritually unclean according to the Mosiac Law covenant (Leviticus 15:19) Since the Temple of Jerusalem was the center of Jewish worship the isolation must have deeply pained her. Because of her health condition she could not worship with family and friends. So God came to worship with her as He came to pitch his tent with mankind through Jesus the Christ. ( John 2:19, Revelation 21:3)
This woman’s faith was rewarded because like Peter she was willing to step out on faith and press into the Lord. She literally pressed into the Lord so much so that power left him. (Luke 8:46) She ran to grab the hem of his garment with faith knowing that if she touched his clothes she would be healed. Mark’s account tells us more about the condition of her heart . When Jesus asks the crowd who touched him and she responded to the Lord thus began this woman’s encounter with living God. It is worthy to note that this question was similar to question God asked of Eve in the garden of Eden. (Genesis 3:9), God’s question was not prompted out of not knowing. In verse 33 of Mark chapter 5 it says , “But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the whole truth.” Jesus was interested in a dialogue and this woman’s testimony. She completely surrendered her situation to Jesus expecting that He would act on her behalf. ( Matthew 18:19; Revelation 21:6)
What about you and I ?
This woman no longer had an “issue of blood” when Jesus came in the picture! In a spiritual sense, the healing power of Our Lord Jesus’ shed blood allowed healing to already occur the moment she believed that she could be healed. Touching Jesus was just the physical manifestation of her healing. Healing comes when we are completely honest with God about the situation we are in. We acknowledge that we cannot do a single thing without Him. ( John 15:5)
Will we tap into the healing power of God steps by running to Jesus’ hem in full faith? Will we like, the woman with an issue of blood, by proxy tap into the healing power of God and participate our own miracle?
What healing are YOU trusting in God for?
